10 questions with…Lisa McGinty

Lisa McGinty1. Tell me about your job.

I work for the Barnes Jewish Hospital Foundation as the major gifts officer. I work with generous donors to raise money for research, patient care, equipment and special projects at the hospital. The best part is finding creative ways to help donors accomplish their philanthropic dreams, while also meeting the hospital’s greatest needs.

2. Where are you from?

I grew up in St. Louis and went to St. Joe’s [St. Joseph’s Academy]. I left to go to Notre Dame for college, and met my husband there.

3. Why did you come back?

I had a great opportunity to come back for grad school at SLU. I love the people in St. Louis, the neighborhoods here. We have so many interesting pockets, so many free things, a world-class hospital. It’s a great place to start a family.

4. How did you get involved with GenNext?

Katy Lachky (left, pictured with Lisa, right), who’s on the steering committee, is my cousin and close friend. She’s involved with so many organizations in St. Louis. She encouraged me to join her at a few of the service projects and social events for GenNext. It’s a great way to get involved. It’s the kind of commitment that’s perfect when you’re busy. Congratulations to our GenNext 30 Under 30!

GenNext is proud to have three members selected as part of the 2008 30 Under 30 class by the St. Louis Business Journal: steering committee member Billye Kennedy, member Chris LeBeau and founder David Gonzalez.

These three never cease to amaze me with their selfless dedication to the St. Louis community. Their love for helping others is in addition to being rock-star business leaders.

Fellow steering committee member SiSi Beltrán Martí and I were honored to be inducted last year.

Being part of a 30 Under 30 class is a great honor, but also a fabulous way to meet new and interesting folks,” she says. “We’ve met some great people that are sure to be our friends for years!”

Many congratulations and welcome to the club. SiSi and I will teach you the secret handshake on July 17.

“Pay it Forward”

Colleen Jaycox is letting us repost the following from her blog, http://colleenjaycox.wordpress.com. Enjoy! If you’d like to contribute to this site, let us know! -kk

Community service. Maybe it’s the people with which I surround myself. Maybe it’s something to which I am drawn out of a desire share my blessings with others. I’ve always wondered the extent to which one should be pleased with their community service. Obviously there’s the warm and fuzzy feeling you get from knowing you helped someone else out… but I’ve found there are often pretty selfish reasons to get involved with community service: reputation, fun, networking.
