About the Volunteer Center
United Way is the region's center for volunteering. Our Volunteer Center, established in 1933, is one of the oldest volunteer centers in the nation and has met the national standards of the Points of Light Foundation / Volunteer Center National Network. The United Way's St. Louis Cares program is the local affiliate of the Hands On Network.
The United Way of Greater St. Louis Volunteer Center connects people to quality opportunities to serve, builds capacity for local volunteering, promotes volunteering and raises awareness of the value volunteers bring to our communities and participates in strategic initiatives that mobilize volunteers effectively and efficiently to meet local needs.
The Volunteer Center values, first and foremost, people. Whether you're young or old, a family or an individual, a group of employees or a group of young professionals, the Volunteer Center helps you find the opportunity to enrich your life and improve the quality of life in our community through your service.
We also value diversity and collaboration, knowing that all people have time and talents to strengthen communities. We strive to connect all cultures through volunteer service, serving as a convener for the community and a catalyst for action and change.
Finally, we value excellence. We implement effective strategies, hold ourselves accountable for results and share knowledge and best practices with others to strengthen the service sector.
