Become a Volunteer Center-certified agency

Certified VolunteerThe United Way of Greater St. Louis’ Volunteer Center offers certification to local nonprofit organizations with well-managed volunteer programs. Certification is based on a set of nationally recognized standards critical to quality volunteer management practices.

By meeting these standards, organizations can enjoy the rewards of well-equipped, energized and committed volunteer participation in their activities. Further, certification helps encourage professionalism by recognizing that there are defined management principles that are required to the effective management and utilization of volunteers.

To get started, download the forms below. We have a library of best practice examples from agencies that have certified volunteer programs. If you'd like guidance on strengthening your volunteer management practices, including examples of outstanding volunteer handbooks, policies, recruitment and retention strategies, training models, volunteer recognition ideas and more, please call the Volunteer Center at 1-800-VOLUNTEER.

Recognize your outstanding volunteers
The President's Volunteer Service Award is a unique way to honor your organization's volunteers. The United Way of Greater St. Louis Volunteer Center is authorized by the Points of Light Foundation, the USA Freedom Corps and the White House to provide Presidential recognition of volunteers who have logged a qualifying number of service hours.

Youth serving 50 hours and adults serving 100 hours in a calendar year can receive a commemorative pin, a letter signed by the President of the United States and a frameable certificate to honor service.

For more information, please e-mail Rick Skinner.
